POSITION: Pool Lifeguard/Instructor
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Current certification in NLS, Standard First Aid/CPR C,
Lifesaving Instructor. Police record check.
POSITION PROFILE: Under supervision, ensure facility safety through supervision and
education of the public.
DIMENSIONS AND TASKS:
1.0 Performs Lifeguard Duties (e.g.)
1.1 Ensures facility safety through equipment checks and maintenance.
1.2 Performs safety supervision through scanning and teamwork to provide proactive intervention into emergency situations.
1.3 Provides water rescue and first aid care and follow-up for persons within the designated area of supervision.
1.4 Maintains in-service training requirements and personal fitness levels as outlined.
1.5 Completes attendance tracking form for each recreational and rental swim log during a shift.
1.6 Completes chemical checks as outlined by the facility.
1.7 Maintains current qualifications.
2.0 Performs Swimming Instructor Duties (e.g.)
2.1 Instructors are responsible for teaching ALL of their assigned classes during the session. Sickness or personal emergencies are the only exceptions.
2.2 Maintain Lifesaving Society swimming standards.
2.3 Educates swimmers in pool hazards and safety.
2.4 Carry out rescues and the necessary follow-up procedures as required.
2.5 Follows all policies and procedures.
2.6 Instruct Class at designated level for the full session.
2.7 Maintain records of student attendance and progress on a daily basis.
2.8 Ensure all equipment for the class is ready.
2.9 Progress Reports must be completed one week before they go out to participants to be reviewed by supervisor unless other arrangements have been made.
2.10 Worksheets are to be kept the staff filing cabinet at all times.
2.11 Unclaimed report cards are to be given to your supervisor after last class.
2.12 Completed worksheets are to be given to your supervisor after last class.
2.13 Instructors must participate with the class and demonstrate skills. Don’t be afraid to get wet and show your students the different skills.
2.14 Watch all students in your class at all times.
2.15 Remember, evaluation is to be continuous.
2.16 Instructors are responsible for putting away any equipment used immediately following lessons.
2.17 When replacing another staff’s shift, you are responsible for all of the above duties when filling in.

POSITION: Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Lifeguards and Instructors
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Current certification in NLS, Standard First Aid, CPR level C, Lifesaving Society Instructor, Red Cross Oxygen Administration (or equivalent). Police check.
POSITION PROFILE: Ensure the facility and programs run smoothly.
DIMENSIONS AND TASKS:
1.0 Performs all Lifeguard and Instructor Dimensions and Tasks as outlined in that job description as well as the following:
2.0 Aquatic Supervisor Duties (e.g)
2.1 Be on time and in uniform.
2.2 Ensure efficient and effective program operation during your shift.
2.3 Ensure all staff are present and in uniform.
2.4 Ensure all safety procedures are being applied both on deck and throughout the building.
2.5 Assist as a Lifeguard if swim populations demand.
2.6 Assist as an Instructor if staff require assistance, or to maintain proper student to instructor ratios.
2.7 Ensure all emergency equipment is in good order. Check first aid kit and oxygen on each shift.
2.8 Ensure replacements are found for any staff member who has called in sick (this is to be done not only for your shift, but other shifts as well.)
2.9 Attends supervisors’ meetings.
2.10 Ensures all equipment is put away.
2.11 Ensures all duties of lifeguard/instructors are performed properly and in a timely manner.
2.12 Accepts responsibility of leadership towards all subordinates and public.
2.13 Ensures sound Public Relations practices are in place for yourself and all staff (i.e., quick/positive handling of a complaint will ensure our customers stay at the facility).
2.14 Before leaving, ensure the bottom of the pool is clear and the pool deck and rest of facility is clean and secure (locked) unless another supervisor takes over.
2.15 Ensures that alarm code and keys are not shared with others.
2.16 Maintains current qualifications.
3.0 Maintains Reports (e.g.)
3.1 Ensures End Of Shift Report is completed, and left for immediate supervisor.
3.2 Reports concerns of safety, equipment or staff to supervisor immediately.
3.3 Provides follow-up reports to all accidents, incidents and water rescues.
3.4 Performs evaluation of lifeguard/instructors at least once per year.
3.5 Ensures attendance tracking forms are completed.
3.6 Complete tasks as assigned by your Supervisor.
3.7 Ensure all statistical information is kept for all pool activities.
3.8 Prepare End of Session Report.
4.0 Office Duties (e.g)
4.1 Gives front office breaks as required.
4.2 Continuously checks voice-mail/ E-mail.
4.3 Ensures that offices and staff room are kept neat and organized.
4.4 Ensure facility is secure at the end of shift
